Calathea lancifolia Rattlesnake Plant has the most beautifully marked, wavy, long leaves. It's distinctive pattern is enhanced by the red-purple underside on the leaves. Rattlesnake Plant is native to the warm, moist forests of Brazil. Because of this the plant will suffer if in a cold or dry location. The leaves of this Calathea can grow to be 2.5 feet tall.
Rattlesnake plant is one of the easier Calathea to grow and it is resistant to browning leaves.
Calathea lancifolia should not be placed in direct sunlight. It will look its best in a bright, indirect light location.
Rattlesnake plant likes to be kept moist all the time during its growing season.
Like other Calathea, hard water will damage the plant. Use rain water or distilled water. Humidity is also great for this plant and it loves to be misted.
The soil should be sandy and drain well.
During the active growing season (spring & summer) feed this Calathea with a diluted liquid fertilizer every month.
Re-pot Calathea lancifolia every couple years during the spring.
